Supporting communication by using a Picture Exchange Communication System

This workshop will be delivered by Samantha Reeves, ASCETS Teacher, City of Doncaster Council.

​

At this workshop parents/carers will learn how signs and symbols can support communication with their child.

​

By the end of the workshop you will understand  the 6 phases of a Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and be able to use the PECS approach with your child.

​

Samantha is a specialist teacher working in the ASCETS team, City of Doncaster Council. The ASCETS team is a school support service who work with schools, children and young people and their families to support the improvement of learning outcomes, particularly where they have an autism diagnosis or social communication needs.

​

Samantha has been a qualified teacher for 17 years and has taught in both mainstream primary and in specialist settings.


She has used a range of strategies to support children with their communication skills including experience of using PECS and other augmentative and alternative communication methods.
